i think its just because people who have played other souls games want to use new weapons or "the best" weapons instead of using weapons they like.

That's what the R2 does. The bastard sword was my playthrough weapon until i got the Claymore in DS2. Claymore is generally a little more superior, longer range, more useful move set, the twohanded r2 is a poke which can do colossal damage on Leo ring counters, which Bastard can't.
