I adored Rendezvous with Rama, a great well written novel. On the one hand, the different societies were interesting, the world is well described, but the characters were just very flat, and the books were strung out way too long.
I generally adore Arthur C Clarke, but I'd pass on this omnibus and just read the first novel, "Rendevous with Rama". I have not read Arthur C Clarke before purchasing this collection. The others, are simply dreadful.

Clarke did his best to stick to the "hard science" and it gave this book a very unique flavour, rarely seen in recent SF (by recent I mean post 1990). I stopped halfway through the last or second last book as I didn't care enough to notice. Set in the 2130s, the story involves a 50-by-20-kilometre (31 by 12 mi) cylindrical alien starship that enters the Solar System.The story is told from the point of view of a group of human explorers who intercept the ship in an attempt to unlock its mysteries.
Clarke was well known for his television series investigating paranormal phenomena – Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World (1980), Arthur C. Clarke's World of Strange Powers (1985) and Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious Universe (1994) – enough to be parodied in an episode of The Goodies in which his show is cancelled after it is claimed that he does not exist. Rendezvous with Rama is a science fiction novel by British writer Arthur C. Clarke first published in 1973. La plume d'Arthur C.
